Ottawa Fury will visit FC Edmonton on Sunday afternoon as both Canadian clubs look to extend their strong Fall Season form. Ottawa currently sit top of the NASL Fall Season and combined standings after a 2-1 win over Carolina last weekend, while FC Edmonton is coming off a 3-1 loss to Atlanta and sit five points’ behind Ottawa.
The match, which will take place in Fort McMurray Alberta, will be the fourth meeting between the clubs this year, including a 0-0 draw in the NASL and two big 3-1 wins for Edmonton in the Voyageurs Cup. Fury are a much different team since the two clubs last met, currently on a 10 game unbeaten streak, and with both clubs battling for a post season berth the rivalry could enter a new chapter this weekend.
Keep Thinking
FC Edmonton’s new signing Dustin Corea is expected to make his FC Edmonton debut, while Lance Laing will return to the squad following his time with Jamaica in the Gold Cup. Hanson Boakai, who was suspended last weekend by Colin Miller for showing up late for practice, should also be available for the Canadian match up.
Ottawa aren’t expecting to make many changes, especially thing everything is working out well for them. Their back four will surely remain unchanged, while Julian De Guzman may return to the midfield in the starting line up. Haworth and Heinemann have both had strong Fall Season’s so far and will likely each get a start, while Oliver, Wiedeman, Hassan and Paulo Jr offer a lot of choices for Fury coach Marc Dos Santos
In The End
Ottawa will surely be the more confident of the two clubs, as they are on a red-hot 10 game unbeaten streak and currently sit atop the NASL table and are relatively injury free. Lance Laing’s return for FC Edmonton will undoubtedly be a boost for the Albertan club as the Jamaican has impressed a lot this year.
The match will be big for both clubs, as Ottawa looks for retribution after falling apart earlier this year in the Voyageurs Cup, while FC Edmonton will be looking to make up points they have dropped recently, and return to a favourable spot in the standings.
Prediction:
FC Edmonton 0-2 Ottawa Fury FC
