Starting slow and messy, Toronto FC were able to squeeze a point out of Philadelphia Union. While it wasn't pretty, and Toronto arguably were denied a penalty that might have won it, it combined with another result were enough for Toronto to secure a postseason berth (for real this time).
I feel like Tony Dungy. Playoffs? Playoffs?!?!
Are we in the playoffs? No clue.
The Opening 45
Toronto chased an organized Philadelphia for most of the half. The defense seemed out of their depth and Toronto's attack couldn't get passed Philadelphia's midfield. That midfield was able to do reverse a Toronto attack into a goal with seemingly no difficulty for Alejandro Bedoya.
The Second Half
Following the sub of Marco Delgado into the game, Toronto were able to get things going. In the 70th minute, some great teamwork by Justin Morrow and Jonathan Osorio lead to Morrow equalizing the game.
Despite some late chances by Jozy Altidore, the game remained level until the end. The controversial denial of a penalty likely saved the game for Philadelphia. While many were disappointed in the result, a win by New York Red Bulls helped Toronto earn its second-ever playoff berth.
Man of the Match
Jonathan Osorio
While it might have been Morrow who scored it, Osorio laid the groundwork for the goal.
