In this interview, RedNation and Jim discuss the new Sports Science department he is leading within Toronto FC, his approach to sports science innovation, injury prevention and helping athletes reach their highest potential and his upcoming participation as a clinician at the 2015 National Soccer Coaching Conference.

Jim Liston is the director of Sports Science for Toronto FC and co-founder of CATZ (Competitive Athlete Training Zone). Liston is one of the leading experts on training athletes and mentoring coaches, having worked with teams such as the LA Galaxy (2000 CONCACAF champions, 2001 US Open Cup champions, 2002 MLS Cup champions), Columbus Crew (2008 MLS Cup champions), and USA men’s volleyball (2008 Olympic gold medalists). Liston, and his team at CATZ, has also worked with many professional athletes, such as Carlos Ruiz, Taylor Twellman, Kristine Lilly, Kevin Hartman, Heather O’Reilly, and Canadian Candace Chapman. He is an expert on presenting the principles of effective training and creating an engaging environment in which athletes flourish. He has been featured in the New York Times, on the NBC Nightly News, in Newsweek and in Men’s Health. Liston holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Massachusetts and a Masters of Education in Health Science from Springfield College.
