“Toronto FC Makes Playoffs”
It’s the headline we’ve all been waiting for, one that I’ve dreamed of writing, in truth. It’s also the headline that one would hope to see come the season’s end.
Four simple words, that’s all – Toronto FC Makes Playoffs. So, on this, the fourth day of the holiday countdown, the league gave to TFC a spot in the MLS Cup.
That’s the only thing I want to read at the end of the year. None of these headlines will be acceptable:
“Nelsen Fired By Leiweke”
“Defoe Out With Injury”
“BMO Field Hosts Argos”
“Toronto FC Finishes Last”
On a personal note, I believe that the media collective in Toronto is hungry for a playoff article, too. It’s something new to write, which has become harder and harder to say after each league match. A new story, bold dramatics and heroic triumphs is what TFC fans are craving, and I’d say the media is craving it much the same. A good story is a good story – Toronto FC in the playoffs is as good a story as any!
